Sara Ashback of Ridgefield, Washington is a senior at Skyview High School. She plans on attending Montana State University majoring in Civil Engineering with a minor in Construction Management. “As a civil engineer, I would work closely with construction managers, workers, and the public entity to finish a project on time and on budget, with high regard to safety. My life would be complete if I could point to a bridge and say, ‘I designed that’.” Sara is a four-year veteran of the Skyview StormBots Robotics team. Outside of school, she is a member of the National Honor Society, a first degree black belt, and an accomplished pianist.

Sade’ Beasley of Portland, Oregon is a freshman at Oregon State University majoring in Civil Engineering. “Engaging in drafting and construction classes at Benson High School gave me the initial desire to pursue engineering as a field of study. Becoming the Portland Rose Festival princess my senior year fully concreted my desires to pursue a career in civil engineering through a job shadow with a transportation engineer.” Sade’ is on the College of Engineering Dean’s List, and an active member of the Society of Women Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, and Engineers Without Borders. During her free time, she enjoys relaxing with a book, doing math equations with my little sister, and engaging in civic service.

Colby GeDeros of Coquille, Oregon is a sophomore at Oregon State University pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. “My experiences are the basis for why I have the goal to become a structural engineer that I do. To be responsible for massive structures that are used by the public every day, so intricate and unique, would be an amazing feeling and an incredible accomplishment.” Colby is an active member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and enjoys the outdoors, the beach, hunting, hiking, and camping.

Jordan Hamilton of Redmond, Oregon is a freshman at Oregon State University majoring in Mechanical Engineering. “As a mechanical engineer, I plan on developing safer practices and equipment to improve the construction industry. This is how I plan to provide a return on investments that I have accepted. One day I hope that I will be able to improve the construction industry by using my education as the driving factor to my success.” Jordan is actively involved with the OSU SAE Baja team, a member of the Oregon Hunters Association, and enjoys fishing and spending time in the outdoors.

Jeff Nakashima of Lake Oswego, Oregon is a sophomore at Oregon State University majoring in Construction Engineering Management. “My ultimate goal with my degree from Oregon State is to find a career that allows me to give back in ways that will benefit those in need.” Jeff is Vice President of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) - OSU Chapter, serves as a leader for Young Life Corvallis, and is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. In his spare time he enjoys wakeboarding, golf, and reading.

Jakob Neuenschwander of Boring, Oregon is a sophomore at Oregon State University pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. “Construction has always been a great passion of mine, and I have found that engineering is the perfect fit for me. After completing a summer internship with Advanced American Construction, I am even surer of this, as I found it to be one of the most enriching experiences of my life.” In Jakob’s spare time he enjoys the great outdoors, both in the woods and on the water.

Tasha Petermann of Kennewick, Washington is a freshman at Montana State University. “As I progress to more advanced engineering classes, my plan is to learn as much as possible about the different aspects of the civil engineering field to help determine the best fit for me to fulfill my career objectives and enable me to actively contribute to society.” During the summer of 2012, Tasha had the opportunity to visit Ireland and was fascinated by structures new and old around the country, which reinforced her desire to receive a degree in Civil Engineering. She is Vice President of Hannon ASMSU and a member of the MSU American Society of Civil Engineers. In Tasha’s spare time she enjoys hiking, running, and skiing.

Juliana Porter of Tualatin, Oregon, is a two-time winner of this scholarship. She is a freshman at University of Southern California majoring in Civil Engineering. “After attending the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship Awards Banquet last spring, I was struck by the realization that this scholarship was about so much more than financial assistance. The genuiness of everyone I met at last year’s banquet really made me feel welcomed and supported, and I hope to have the opportunity to further develop relationships at this year’s dinner.” Juliana is a member of the Trojan Scholar Society, the Society of Women Engineers, and enjoys baking and outdoor activities in her spare time.

Jason Powell of Corvallis, Oregon is a senior at Oregon State University majoring in Construction Engineering Management and German. As a direct result of the Schweiger Memorial Scholarship from past two years, he has had the opportunity to intern for Oregon Iron Works and Advanced American Construction. “This idea of working my way up through good old fashioned hard work and experience is how I plan on improving myself to the point that I can manage larger projects, and someday perhaps even a company.” Jason is active in AGC, president of the MCAA student chapter, and is a music leader at Grace City Church in Corvallis.

Damien Pulley of Klamath Falls, Oregon is a junior at Oregon State University pursing a degree in Construction Engineering Management. “The construction field is a perfect fit for my goals. Everything I have learned and experienced in regards to the field of construction has been challenging, exciting, and left me wanting more.” Damien is active in AGC, and intramural football, basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer and ultimate frisbee.

Levi Warriner of Silverton, Oregon is a junior at Oregon State University majoring in Civil Engineering with a minor in Agricultural sciences. “I have narrowed my focus down to transportation engineering. Roads are a vital transportation line to move goods from one point to another. Roads are deteriorating and everybody uses them every day and I want to make an impact on peoples’ lives every single day.” Levi is a member of ASCE, AGC and the Chi Epsilon Engineering Honors Society. He enjoys playing basketball, football, golf, biking and snowboarding.

Wiley Wolfe of Portland, Oregon is a senior at David Douglas High School. He will be attending Oregon State University majoring in Chemical Engineering. “For the past three summers I have been a laborer on construction crews. I noticed some problems that do not have a good solution. I plan on becoming a chemical engineer and work in the construction and environmental fields. I would like to design products that have reduced negative environmental impacts.” Wiley is an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, a National Honors Society member, and competes in high school cross-country, swimming and track.

Devin Wyckoff of Buxton, Oregon is a freshman at Oregon State University and is working towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering. “It was an honor and privilege to be a 2012 Schweiger Scholarship recipient. The Scholarship Dinner was a night I will always remember. I am and will continue to be a grateful and hardworking recipient.” When not in school, Devin works on his family’s farm where he is surrounded by farm animals’ day in and day out. Devin is an ASME member, and enjoys playing baseball, basketball, ultimate frisbee, billiards, and carpentry during his spare time.
